After care

1. I recommend you keep the second skin bandage I applied on your fresh tattoo on for 3 days, but if you wish you can take it off a little before or after day 3, that is okay ! Listen to your body. When you decide to remove it, please take it off in the shower under warm water. If the seal of the bandage breaks before the 3 days are up, remove it immediately and go to the next step. If you chose not to use the second skin as your bandage method and instead chose plastic wrap, after one to five hours after your tattoo you may remove the plastic wrap. You will then move to the next step.

2. Wear loose fitting clothing in the days immediately after your appointment. Do not wear clothing that will rub or pull at your skin. Do not do any intense exercise or excessive sweating that could put strain on the body part you just got tattooed.

3. Please remove the bandage in the shower. Under warm (but not hot) water, slowly remove the bandage. If you chose to use second skin, it will have adhered to your skin and can be difficult to remove. Go slowly, and gently peel it off the tattoo. Once it is removed, wash the tattoo with Dial Antibacterial Soap in the shower. Be gentle, the area will be sensitive.

4. After your shower, please pat (do not rub) the area dry with a clean towel. You may now apply a thin layer of ointment to your tattoo. I suggest Aquaphor, but you may also use A&D ointment. Ensure you are applying a thin layer, you want to hydrate your new tattoo but do not want to suffocate it.

5. Please continue to keep the area clean, and wash it with soap twice a day. Do not use soaps with any fragrance, as this can irritate the tattoo. Also continue to apply Aquaphor, a thin layer, a few times a day. You will notice when you apply the ointment the area will appear less flakey and dry. It is imperative you keep the area as clean as possible to prevent any infection. A fresh tattoo is an open wound and must be treated as such.

6. Continue to clean and hydrate your tattoo until it has completely healed. The top layer will flake and fall off. Once the entire area has no more remaining flakes or scabs, the tattoo is healed. This usually takes two to three weeks. Do not pull at or scratch the flakes of your healing tattoo. This could cause ink to be removed from your skin and damage your fresh tattoo.

7. Do not put sunscreen on your fresh tattoo. Wait until it is completely healed. Keep your tattoo away from sunlight during the healing process, as UV rays can damage your new ink. Please cover the area with loose fitting clothing, a bandana, or any other comfortable material to protect it from the sun. After it is healed, put sunscreen on your tattoo every time you go out into the sun to keep the tattoo vibrant and protect it from sun damage.

8. Do not submerge your tattoo in water until it is completely healed. This includes swimming in lakes, rivers, or oceans, hot tubs and baths.

9. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please message me !! I will be happy to talk to you and walk you through any issues that may arise.

10. Once your tattoo is completely healed, after about one month, I would appreciate a healed photo (if you have time and are comfortable sending one). Best conditions would be natural (but not harsh) lighting, a little bit of Aquaphor, and if possible, another person taking the photo.
